What Is Comprehensive Car Insurance?

If you live in the United States and own a registered vehicle, then you are required to have insurance, but not necessarily full comprehensive car insurance. There are many types of car insurance and even more types of coverages available. The coverage you choose will be determined by your particular needs. For instance, if you are driving a car that still has a bank note on it, then you will be required to carry comprehensive car insurance.

I want to go over the benefits of comprehensive car insurance, as this is the most and best coverage you can get. I want you to imagine for a moment…you have a brand new SUV, decked out with all the options. Now, this baby wasn’t cheap, so if anything were to happen to it, you would be up a creek without a paddle. You and your date are going out for the evening, you park your car way out in the parking lot where it will be safe from other cars. However, when you come back out to your car, and you can’t find it. You know you parked it right there, where it would be safe, under the bright lights. Well, now what? Your car is gone, and you start thinking about the deep trouble you are in.

This, is only one of many scenarios that insurance companies deal with on a daily basis. If you have comprehensive car insurance, then you can relax and know that you are going to be well taken care of. There are many policies that will not cover theft, such as liability only coverage. With Liability Only, you would be responsible for replacing your car, which is why any car worth a bit of money, needs comprehensive car insurance.

You never know when an accident will happen, maybe you will slide in the ice and hit a barrier, or who knows, a tree may fall and land on your car while in your own driveway. This is why it is called Insurance, to protect you from things that are unexpected. If you have full comprehensive car insurance, you can at least have the peace of mind that your vehicle is well protected, maybe not from the elements, but from draining your pocket.

Another reason for having comprehensive car insurance is to protect yourself from the drivers that are driving around without any car insurance. If you get into an accident, how do you know that the other driver has insurance to pay for your damages? What if you are injured? All these come into play way to often, as there are 1 in 4 drivers on the road driving without any insurance. If this happens to you, your comprehensive car insurance will take care of your vehicle minus the deductible. It just pays to be covered.
